Lock

Julian went off to nature for a looong run, Gareth woke in a foul mood, I've been oddly ill since indulging in two sundried tomato and spicy avocado spread sandwiches yesterday...

Got the car all loaded up to take Gareth for a "cheer up" swim and went to put the pushchair in the boot - meanwhile that malicious vehicle LOCKED ITSELF! What a jerk! Central locking is totally overrated. All our stuff trapped in the car, and us locked out of the car and house.

Luckily:
Gareth wasn't in the car when it happened!
We'd just done a nappy change!
The pushchair was out!
New World has a customer toilet!
Our favourite juice bar was open!
The juice bar owner hooked us up with smoothie, bus fare and door key!
The bus ride was super good fun!
We didn't have to sit on the driveway and weep for several hours until someone came home!

It's obviously that time of the year. This year, exhaustion is more excusable since there is a wakeful boy downstairs and a fidgety boy inside.

Of the twelve elements of a good day off, 2, 3, 6 and 11 are no longer on the cards. But I think I'm doing pretty damn well to still be ticking many of the boxes, and to have a fun little boy to hang out with.

Headlights

Headlights are great but infinitely better is the squeal of alarm our Honda Civic makes when I forget to turn them off and try to leave the car.

Priceless. One of technology's better moves.

Anniversary: a sequel

A little hit of summer, lounging on the deck, paddling at the beach, lounging on another deck.

We are lucky to get holidays. Contrary to Megan's opinion ("if I had a job I'd never take a holiday, what do you need a holiday for? that's just lazy"...) holidays rule.
